A delightful place to stay and eat. I have found the service excellent and friendly. The food specials are always a treat.

On our tour through Vermont before the deluge, we happened to choose to stay on one of the Champlain Islands. This was an incredible surprise for dinner. Such a lovely atmosphere and the food was very yummy. Oh, to remember to come up here again and possibly book a cabin...

The view of lake Champlain was wonderful with lots of birds and lovely landscaping. Food and service were perfect. We started with an appetizer of radishes and volcanic sea salt with butter and sprouts. Great flavor. My husband had the salmon which was excellent with a delightful sauce - a mixture of mustard and soy with hints of lime. My filet was perfectly cooked and melt-In-your-mouth tender. The garlic Parmesan mashed potato were te beat I've had. We both had bistro (smaller) servings which were perfect for us.

Shore Acres, at first it my appear as a motel with a restaurant which is basically true. However the location and friendly service is what makes this place special. The lake view and access is fantastic. The fact that a good dinner is served after a restful day is great. You can swim in the lake take a great bike ride on quiet roads or just sit out and enjoy. The rooms are simple and clean and they only have a limited number of tables at the window; so it may not be perfect to everyone. Mike & Susan work very hard to make people happy and the grounds are beautiful. This is my third time at Shore Acres and in my book you could not find a better place for a summer vacation.

We absolutely love this place. We always eat our last vacation meal here. The service is great, view wonderful and food fantastic. The best local veggies and best calamari anywhere in the world!

Yes, Shore Acres is beautifully situated, but I've eaten here twice (last August and again this past week) and have had regrettable meals both times. Last year, my fish dinner contained spoiled fish, so this year (we thought we'd give it a second chance) I ordered mushroom ravioli. A poor choice (watery red sauce; empty, flavorless ravioli), as was my husband's turkey & biscuit dinner, which was unidentifiable as turkey. Another member in our party received the wrong order, yet another returned his chicken dish because of seasoning issues & got an overcooked, still poorly seasoned dish in return. To be fair, those who ordered the tuna/seaweed enjoyed their meals. And then there was the service. We were with a large group and at the outset requested separate checks. After the meal was over, we received a single bill with no effort made to help us figure out our individual charges. The manager's suggestion was simply to split the bill equally, which would have meant that my husband's and my dinner would have cost $75 for 2 meals that totaled $36 - an unreasonable solution, especially given the poor quality of our meals. We were there for what seemed like an eternity trying to divide the bill fairly. To put this unpleasant experience in perspective, during this same week our group ate at two other restaurants on the island with universally excellent meals as well as outstanding service - including separate checks cheerfully given. So it *can* be done.

Shore Acres has enormous potential, but consistently falls short in customer service. The Pros: Great location overlooking Lake Champlain. Nice rooms. Great restaurant chef (food quality was excellent). The Cons: The owners do not care about customer service. Staff are young, inexperienced and poorly trained. Rooms have many defects that are known but not addressed. WiFi does not work in the "annex" (rooms 20-23). We spent two nights at Shore Acres for a getaway long weekend. Although the location is convenient and the views spectacular, the owners do not have a clue about customer service or service recovery (which was warranted several times during our two day stay). Very disappointing when we were paying almost $200 a night for a room and spent $105 for dinner for two in the restaurant. The details: When we arrived at the room there was a 6 inch wet spot in comforter in the middle of the bed. The ceiling above the bed was dry, so we assumed that the comforter had not fully dried when it was washed. We folded it to air dry. When we returned to the room the next afternoon, there was an 18 inch diameter wet spot in the middle of the bed. We called the desk and housekeeping arrived immediately and changed the linens, noting that the people in the room above us must be showering without putting the liner in the tub and they would speak to them. At least they responded in this case. When we turned the fan on in the bathroom, it rattled loud enough to wake the dead. When we mentioned it to housekeeping staff they said "Oh yeah, we just noticed that" - no apology and no effort to address it (we suspect it was not just discovered). When we turned on the air conditioning the fan on the AC unit made very loud noises on the low or medium setting. There was no way to have the AC on anything but high. When we mentioned it to the housekeeping staff, they said "Oh, we didn't know about that". Again, no apology or effort to address it. When we later reported these issues to the owners (thinking the staff might not be letting them know), their response was "uh huh". No apology, no writing it down to remember to have it fixed. An "it is what it is" attitude. The most offensive interaction was the night of our arrival. We selected Shore Acres partly because they advertise Wifi available. For a variety of reasons, both professional and personal, we needed access to the Internet during our stay. When we first arrived, we were able to connect from our room, but the connection was very slow (think "dial up"). We went to dinner at the restaurant and returned to our room and were unable to connect to the Internet at all. We called and were told the storm earlier in the day had knocked out the connection in our room, but it was working in the lobby (a 400 foot uncovered walk from our room in the annex, and it was raining outside). We went to the lobby - there was no one at the desk, so we walked around the corner to the restaurant. Four wait staff in a small room were chatting and ignored us as we stood there. We stepped into the room where they were chatting and they still ignored us! We interrupted their conversation to ask to speak with the manager. They pointed to a table of five people in the dining room and said "He's at that table". We said "Please go get him" and they finally did. A couple came over and asked what the problem was. We explained that we could not connect to the Internet from our room and that it was not caused by the storm because it was working earlier in the day. They seemed surprised that it was working at all. The wife tried to reset the Internet connection. The husband's attitude was very defensive. When I said I understand that things happen, but would expect some kind of consideration, he said "you're not paying for the Internet". I said "it's not included in the room charge?" and he said "no, we didn't raise the room rate when we put it in because it was so spotty". The wife kept saying that's how it is - that it doesn't work at all at their house next to the annex. I then said they should change their advertising to say WIFI "sometimes available" and he angrily said "it works more than sometimes". At one point during the conversation he started to threaten me for complaining to his wife, and the wife told him to leave! We went to the lobby the next day with our laptop and they pointed us to a hard wooden bench. I had to go get a chair from the dining room to have a place to sit without balancing the laptop on my lap. It was loud in the room (just off the dining room) and I was uncomfortable and they did not care. It was as if I was inconveniencing them by trying to use the Wifi they advertise as providing! It's really a shame - Short Acres has so much to offer - if only the people who own it cared about customer relations. They clearly do not and we would not return for that reason.

We only stopped by Shore Acres on a drive through the Lake Champlain Islands. I'm thankful that we found it though because it is an oasis! A fabulous B&B in a somewhat rural setting with a tiny town down the road. Pulling up, there was an active tennis scene and a group of adults and calm children by the water. Seemed to have an older clientele with some young children. We had brunch and the service was fantastic -- and one of the owners came to the table twice to see how we liked it. He then toured us around the rooms and they look clean, comfortable and updated (flat screens). The one above the restaurant has an amazing balcony overlooking the lake, but all others open up to Lake Champlain... a solid find! We will definitely make plans to stay there sometime.

Sadly, we ate at Shore Acres after dark and missed the view of Lake Champlain, which by all accounts, is spectacular. The service was friendly and quite prompt. The food was very good, but not extraordinary. We had salmon and a large pork chop; both were preceded by salads, and came with vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes. Both dinners were very good, but not extraordinary. The creme brulee and the salted caramel ice cream for dessert were both very nice. The restaurant seems a little overpriced, however. A hamburger for $17 and a plate of rotini pasta with meat sauce for around $25 seems a little to steep, and the portions are adequate, but not really large. The chairs at the tables in the dining room also seemed a bit uncomfortable.
